Albuquerque Massage and Acupuncture Services
Carol McGlauchlin Doctor of Oriental Medicine & Licensed Massage Therapist
Signature Service — Advanced Integrated Manual Therapy:
This treatment will look more like a physical therapy treatment than a full-body massage. It includes orthopedic assessments to pinpoint the source of the problem, clinical manual therapy to resolve pain and restore function, patient education, and home exercise or self-care to prolong the results. The manual therapy may include spontaneous muscle release technique (SMRT), trigger point therapy, orthopedic massage techniques, myofascial release, active or passive muscle release, and muscle energy techniques. Wear comfortable sports clothes.
Acupuncture and manual therapy together is an extremely effective combination for pain relief…I am one of the only acupuncturists in Albuquerque to offer this dual service! I do acupuncture with distal needling, which means I put needles in acupuncture points that are not near the problem area. This allows me to do manual therapy directly on the problem area while the needles are doing their job. I treat one patient at a time as opposed to most acupuncturists who treat multiple patients at a time where the treatment only involves putting in needles and you taking a nap.
Customized Therapeutic Massage:
This massage is about you. Whether you need a relaxing Swedish massage to melt away the cares of the day, a deep tissue massage, or a massage with extra focus on a specific issue, I can customize a treatment to suit your needs. Time for intake discussion and evaluation, undressing and dressing, scheduling and paying is separate from your massage time. In other words, if you pay for an hour, you get an hour!
I use passive stretching, gentle but deep compression along the body’s energy lines, traction and rocking to increase flexibility, relieve muscle tension and mobilize joints. Traditionally, Thai massage is performed on a padded mat on the floor, although I can adapt it for the massage table. I may use my hands, forearms, knees, or feet during the treatment. It will leave you feeling relaxed and energized! Wear comfortable sports clothes.
